First Christian Church of Perryville (Disciples of Christ)

Who We Are

1st Christian Church of Perryville is a historic community of faith believed to be established in 1830.  The earliest records indicate that Perryville Christian Church (as the church is also called) worshipped with 32 members in 1840.  In 1845, the land where the building now stands was purchased and served initially by circuit preachers.  Eventually Perryville Christian Church became the home of full-time pastors, although it has frequently nurtured student ministers.  The sanctuary was erected in1919.  It was later renovated during the 1950's with the addition of the Narthex and Fellowship Hall in 1990.   It is the hope of this church that our history not be forgotten, not for the purpose of living in the past, but in the hope of better directing the future through faithful service.

Disciples of The Christ

Perryville Christian Church fully realizes its life and mission in the context of its denomination.  As a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), our congregation affirms the centrality of the Lord's Supper and maintains open communion.  Like the Disciples tradition, we resist creedalism and support the statement "No Creed but Christ."  Thus, there is no need for a statement of beliefs.  We gather as humble seekers of God growing through each other and the scripture in weekly fellowship, worship, study, and service.
